“Topography of War”, Instanbul, TK, 2003 |
Here's some inspirational work by Doris Salcedo, who takes ordinary objects and uses their embodied histories to impress upon people the weight of time and meaning inherent in everyday items. 1600 chairs were used in the making of this monstrous work of urban art. To further charge her work she frequently puts it right in public view, displacing a space people normally think of as empty to send her political, economic and historical messages.
